Steve Brookstein: 'I felt for Cher Lloyd'
Steve Brookstein has said that he felt sympathy for The X Factor's Cher Lloyd after she fell ill at Judges' Houses.
The series one winner said that Lloyd deserved to make it to the live shows even though she failed to perform her audition song in full due to a throat infection.
Speaking about his time on the reality show, Brookstein claimed that he fell ill during the first week of live shows and relied on support from the public who had seen his earlier auditions.
"I felt for her," he wrote on his London 24 blog. "Up until this week's voice problems she had been singing great.
"I had laryngitis on week one of the live shows and was forced to sing in falsetto. In rehearsals, I had been belting out 'When A Man Loves A Woman' in full voice and was feeling very positive, but after my live performance I was inconsolable. Luckily people remembered my 'Dance With My Father' performance in Boot Camp and still voted for me.
"I have no problem with Cher going through, and I'm actually excited about seeing her on top form."
Brookstein had less kind words for Lloyd's show rival Katie Waissel, arguing that her emotional breakdown in her final audition was a "nonsense excuse".
"She isn't even that good a singer. She messed up on her first audition and has done nothing since to convince me or explain why she deserves her place in front of either Treyc or Gamu," he said. "Now there are revelations about her past and her music industry connections that leave me very uncomfortable."
